How to Boost Your Blog Post Engagement

how to boost your blog post engagement

Have you ever wondered how you can get more people to read your blog post after you’ve written it? We all know that you can’t just write a terrific blog and expect your ideal clients to flock it to like a bee to a flower. You have really great content that someone needs to read. It may lead to more bookings for you, no matter what kind of business you’re in. Let’s learn more about how you can boost your blog post engagement!

You may have read my previous blog on “How To Repurpose Your Blog Content” If you haven’t read it yet, I highly encourage you to do so! (Click here!) This blog post will be very similar, but this talks more about how to get your potential clients to go beyond just seeing your content – you want them to click on it!

Before we start talking about how we can increase the traffic to our blog page, we need to first make sure that our blog is optimized for SEO. I talk a lot about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on social media and here on my own website. Each of your blog posts need to have the appropriate alt text on your images. Specific keywords related to your content need to be written into the blog along with a comment section at the bottom. There are other things that you need to check off for each blog post you write, but that info is for another topic later on.

When someone comments on your blog post, Google recognizes that your content is alive and popular, which means that the blog post will rank higher, making it easier for your potential clients to find you! When friends mention your blog on social media, it helps your blog do even better!

After your blog post is published, it’s time to post it in other places where it will get the most views and people will want to click on it. It’s constantly repeated that you shouldn’t be “reinventing the wheel”. Take your blog and post it in the places that will have the best outcome for your business. Think about it – how many times has it happened where we see a dress online and then forget which store it’s from? We know we want to buy it, but we can’t remember where we saw it. So we start searching online using anything we remember about the dress to try and find it. This is the science behind why you constantly see the same ads pop up on your news feed. The key to getting a boost on your blog engagement is to post it in different places and multiple times.

The following list is where I have found the most success on increasing engagement on blogs!

Social Media

Social media includes both Facebook and Instagram. You can use a photo that goes along with the blog and post the image along with an excerpt from the blog. This gives readers a chance to see a little bit about your blog content, but not too much so you can entice them to click on the link to read more. You can also post about your blog to your stories!

More people are apt to look at your stories than scroll through their news feed. You don’t have to post just once on social media about new blog content. In fact, I encourage you to post several times to your feed and stories. You can change up the wording and the image if you like, to highlight different aspects of the blog.

Once of my favorite apps to use for posting blog content to my stories is Unfold. You can create a story that shows you scrolling through the blog post itself when you use the “screen record” function on your smart phone. You can include a clickable link option in your stories that takes them directly to the blog post. Just don’t screen record the entire blog! Stories are meant to be short, so show them a quick view of your new blog.

Don’t stop at only posting to your business accounts. Post your blog to your personal page as well! I have a personal account on Facebook, and I highlight a lot of my photo sessions and blog content. This way, if someone doesn’t follow your business account but you’re friends with them, this may inspire them to book you for a session. When you post your blog here, link your business account or your website so more people can start following you.

The last place on social media to post blog content is a VIP group. I just started one this year for all my current and potential clients. Your clients may not be on Instagram or friends with you on Facebook, so this is a good place to show your new content. Hint hint – if you’re a family photographer, having a VIP group is a great way to book more mini sessions! Your VIP group members can keep up with your blog, and will click on the link when it’s content they want to read.

Pinterest

I’ve talked about using Pinterest before to repurpose your content. The key to using Pinterest is posting often and using attractive graphics each time you post. If you want to post your new blog content seven times (which is encouraged), you can change up your graphics and wording to give more viewers the opportunity to click on your content. Each of these seven graphics can be posted every two days to spread out the content, but it will keep your blog content in front of potential clients.

There’s also no rule that you have to only post new content! Pinterest is great for sharing old content. Recycling old blog posts is great especially if we are in a particular season of the year. For example, the month of November starts engagement season. If you shot a gorgeous engagement photo session at a local venue a year ago and you want to show that post again, you can get clients to click on that blog when they are searching for a local engagement photographer.

Email List

Starting an email list is a great way to keep your potential clients informed about events coming up. But it’s also great for just updating them about photo sessions you’ve previously shot. A lot of photographers will send out blog posts to their email list. Some of your clients may not want to read more, but this gives them the opportunity, especially if they see content that applies to them. Most of the people on your email list may only be there for one reason (sales and mini sessions). However, being consistent with sending out an email at least two times a month helps potential clients see that you’re in demand. This is another reason why writing at least two blog posts a month is a great way to show clients that you have plenty of work to blog!

One last tip! It’s important to keep the comment section live on your blog! That way when people visit your post, they can leave some kind words and maybe even share tips with you!
