Did you know that I’m a recovering perfectionist? I wasn’t always this way. When I was younger, I was very shy and definitely had a type B personality. However, as I’ve gotten older, I’m not the same person I was in high school. I’ve become more confident and independent, and I focus a lot on the details. As someone who is very different now, I have also become someone who likes things just right. It’s been hard to let things go unless it was perfect. As a business owner, this comes in handy as a personality trait because you and others know that things will get taken care of in a timely manner. However, I’ve learned it’s OK for something to be good rather than perfect.
This same situation applies when you are thinking about hiring a virtual assistant. Up to this point, you’ve always been taking care of certain business tasks yourself. You know that you can do it better than anyone else because you know yourself and how your business works. But you may be at the point where you need some help, and you just can’t do it all. You have friends who outsource to virtual assistants and others who don’t because of certain things they have heard about them. There is a lot of misinformation out there, so let’s tackle three myths about hiring a virtual assistant!
Hiring a VA is Risky!
First of all, let’s talk about the word risky. Hiring a virtual assistant is not something that I would consider risky – and I don’t just say that because I am one. To me, the word risky means swimming in the lake without a life jacket, even if you know how to swim. As long as you do your research, gather testimonials and collect sample work from a virtual assistant, you can get a good idea of how you both would work together. If you hire a virtual assistant and you aren’t happy with his or her work, you can always end your contract when it’s appropriate and find someone new. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to find a virtual assistant that you like. You need to work with someone with which you feel comfortable.
Hiring a VA is Expensive!
If you and I were buying a car and we both said we needed to stay within our budgets, those amounts would look very different based on how much we make. If make $3,000 a month and you $12,000, I wouldn’t be to afford a brand new Maserati where as you probably could.
The same applied to hiring a VA. There is a virtual assistant out there for everyone! Some charge more based on their experience and their cost of doing business and others are just starting out. Some virtual assistants may be a sole-proprietorship and others may have a six-figure business. Whatever the differences may be, it’s always a good idea to look at multiple virtual assistants and see what’s included in their packages. Compare pricing and then make the best decision for you and your business based on what you can afford and which tasks you need completed.
No One Has The Time to Work with a VA
You say you don’t have the time to work with a virtual assistant, but I would guess that isn’t the case. I bet you “don’t have the time” because you are busy trying to take care of all your business tasks by yourself. I would venture to guess that you have a lot of work that you could give a VA to do for you. However, staying organized has become harder with everything to do and you don’t know where to start. By making a list of everything you want to outsource and getting the work to your virtual assistant in advance, you will have more time in your business to complete other tasks or just spend more time with your family.
I hope that by debunking these 3 myths about hiring a virtual assistant, you can see that there are benefits to working with a VA.
