Don’t Believe All the Lies About Blogging

don't believe all the lies about blogging when doing research

Blogging can do so many great things for your website and can bring you more ideal clients which in turn brings you more income! However, there are so many things that people say about blogging that aren’t true. I’m here to tell you, don’t believe all the lies. So let’s call them out so we can set the record straight and make sure we discuss all the good things about blogging!

“Blogging is Dead”

This is one of the biggest lies I hear all the time. No one thinks blogging is necessary and social media is what’s most important. While you do need a presence on social media when running a small business, what if we had another scare? Do you remember when social media crashed for a while in 2021? People started panicking, and we all weren’t sure if it would be back online. This is why blogging is so important. If social media disappeared tomorrow, what would you have to fall back on, to showcase your work? Blogging is the best way to share valuable content to your ideal client and can be repurposed for other platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram.

“Blogging Requires 6 Posts a Month”

Google loves when you put out fresh new content, but let’s be realistic! When you’re running a business, taking care of a family, and leaving time for yourself, writing 6 or more blog posts a month isn’t feasible by yourself. As long as you are writing at least 2 blog posts per month, it’s good for your website! Google can see that your website is up to date and has new content to share.

“Each Blog Must Be 1,000 Words”

It was hard writing that many words for my high school English papers, let alone trying to do now that for each blog post! Anyone that visits your site most likely isn’t going to read through a 1,000 word blog post, especially if you work in the wedding industry. If you are a photographer or wedding pro, writing 300-500 words per blog post is a great amount! Sometimes you may want to write more than 500 words, and that is OK! You will be able to effectively show your content whether it’s educational or product-based and still bring more traffic to your website.

“I Don’t Have Anything To Say”

Don’t even think for a second that you don’t have any valuable content for your clients! You built your business because you were passionate about something and wanted to make money and offer your services. So you need to show off what you love to do! Whether you are a photographer, florist, or wedding planner, there are always plenty of ideas for blogging. You can show your work from family sessions and weddings if you’re a photographer or show clients what to wear for each season of the year. If you’re a florist, you can write a blog post about how to choose your bouquet colors, what flowers to use or how to choose a wedding florist in your area. If you’re a wedding planner, you can show your work from a recent wedding, show clients how they can plan a wedding on a budget, or show what a typical day looks like for you. The ideas are endless!

“It Has To Be Perfect”

I will let you in on a little secret: I’m a recovering perfectionist. I am very detail-oriented and in the past, I’ve made drafts for blog posts and never published them because I didn’t think they were good enough. Please don’t let that stop you! I have started repeating the phrase to myself: “Done is better than perfect.” Yes, you need to make sure that you optimize your posts for SEO and add consistent alt-text for your images. However, if you’re excited about new content and want to share it with your clients, then publish that blog! You will thank yourself later, even if it’s not 100% perfect.

Which of these have you believed in the past? I always thought I had to write a lot of words for my blog posts to be successful and coming up with ideas for blog posts can be hard at times. I’ve been nervous to publish blog posts because I’m not sure if my clients or new visitors are going to be able to use the content for their benefit. However, I have learned about all the good things that blogging can do for my website and my work is worthy for clients! Remember, don’t believe all the lies.
